What Can Cause Neuro Developmental Delay ?


A combination of factors cause the continued presence of Primitive Reflexes beyond the normal age of inhibition.


The indicators are not limited to the below list:

Pregnancy

  • Hyperemesis

  • Severe stress

  • Threatened miscarriage

  • Severe viral infection during the first twelve weeks or between 26 to 30 weeks

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)

  • Placental insufficiency – small for dates

  • Uncontrolled diabetes

  • Radiation

  • Smoking

  • Accident or infection

  • Toxoplasmosis

  • Excessive alcohol consumption and/or drug abuse
     

Birth

  • Prolonged labour

  • Cord around the neck

  • Placenta previa

  • Foetal distress

  • High forceps or ventouse extraction

  • Premature (more than 2 weeks early) or post mature (more than 2 weeks late)

  • Breech

  • Caesarean

Newborn Disorders

  • Low birth weight (under 2.2kg)

  • Requiring resuscitation

  • Incubation

  • Blue baby

  • Distorted skull

  • Heavy bruising

  • Heavily jaundiced

  • Problems with feeding during first six months
